Signal Retail is looking for observant, reliable, and professionally minded individuals to work as independent field auditors — visiting retail locations, documenting what customers experience, and submitting evidence-backed reports.

This is professional observation work. It requires attention to detail, clear written English, and the composure to move through a store without drawing attention.
- Arriving at an assigned store during a specified time window
- Moving through the store as a normal customer
- Observing and documenting store conditions per a structured checklist
- Making a small qualifying purchase (reimbursed with receipt documentation)
- Noting specific findings with precise descriptions and locations
- Photographing conditions, signage, and evidence as specified
- Submitting a complete written report within the required timeframe
- Fixing, correcting, or interfering with store operations or displays
- Confronting or questioning store employees
- Representing yourself as a corporate employee, inspector, or official
- Recording audio of employees or customers
This Work Requires Specific Skills and Qualities
Strong candidates typically have:
- Retail, customer service, food service, or hospitality experience
- A background in writing, journalism, healthcare, or education
- Experience in loss prevention, field merchandising, or quality inspection
- Natural observational awareness — you notice things other people miss
- Clear, grammatically correct written English
- Reliability — you complete what you commit to, on time
You’ll need:
- A reliable vehicle and valid driver’s license
- A modern smartphone with a functioning camera
- Flexibility to complete visits during a specified time window
- The professional composure to visit a store as a normal customer
Independent Contractor Positions
Most opportunities in the Signal Retail network are independent contractor positions. You accept or decline assignments based on your availability. You are paid per completed, QA-accepted report.
Independent contractor work means you are responsible for your own taxes, including self-employment taxes. Signal Retail does not withhold taxes from contractor payments and issues a 1099-NEC for any contractor earning $600 or more in a calendar year. Consult a tax professional about your obligations.
Regional Lead Auditor Positions
As Signal Retail grows, we hire W2 or part-time employee regional lead auditors in key markets. Regional leads handle more complex visits, train and support contractors in the region. These positions are posted separately when available.
